چکیده
The main result of this paper is an approximation algorithm for the weighted region optimal path problem. In this problem, a point robot moves in a planar space composed of n triangular regions, each of which is associated with a positive unit weight. The objective is to find, for given source and destination points s and t , a path from s to t with the minimum weighted length. Our algorithm, BUSHWHACK, adopts a traditional approach (see [M. Lanthier, A. Maheshwari, J.-R. Sack, Approximating weighted shortest paths on polyhedral surfaces, in: Proceedings of the 13th Annual ACM Symposium on Coputational Geometry, 1997, pp. 274–283; L. Combined with the logarithmic discretization scheme introduced by Aleksandrov et al. [Approximation algorithms for geometric shortest path problems, in: Proceedings of the 32nd Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing, 2000, pp. 286–295], BUSHWHACK can compute an ε-approximation in O(nε (log 1 ε + logn) log ε ) time. By reducing complexity dependency on ε, this result improves on all previous results with the same discretization approach. We also provide an improvement over the discretization scheme of [L. Aleksandrov, A. Maheshwari, J.-R. Sack, Approximation algorithms for geometric shortest path problems, in: Proceedings of the 32nd Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing, 2000, pp. 286–295] so that the size of G is no longer dependent on unit weight ratio, the ratio between the maximum and minimum unit weights. This leads to the first ε-approximation algorithm whose time complexity does not depend on unit weight ratio. 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Weighted Optimal Path in Graph with Multiple Indexes
This paper represents a technique for finding optimal paths with multiple indexes in a graph. Up to the present time, all optimal paths have been determined upon one index, say, distance for which an evaluation method exists. In this paper firstly we define multiple indexes for each edge in such a way that anyone can treat the factor for assigning an optimal path. Here, we use Data Envelopment ...

The Weighted Region Problem is defined as the problem of finding a cost-optimal path in a weighted planar polygonal subdivision. Searching for paths on a grid representation of the scene is fast and easy to implement. However, grid representations do not capture the exact geometry of the scene. Hence, grid paths can be inaccurate or might not even exist at all. Methods that work on an exact rep...

متن کاملLPI: Approximating Shortest Paths using Landmarks
We present LPI, a novel approach for finding approximate shortest paths in weighted graphs. The basis of the algorithm is the presence of landmarks placed at vertices throughout the graph. Each landmark stores the shortest path from itself to all other vertices. LPI works by searching the intersection points along the landmark paths to approximate a path between two points. We show that the pat...
متن کاملShortest paths in fuzzy weighted graphs
The task of finding shortest paths in weighted graphs is one of the archetypical problems encountered in the domain of combinatorial optimization and has been studied intensively over the past five decades. More recently, fuzzy weighted graphs, along with generalizations of algorithms for finding optimal paths within them, have emerged as an adequate modeling tool for prohibitively complex and/...
متن کاملFinding Optimal-Path Maps for Path Planning across Weighted Regions
Optimal-path maps tell robots or people the best way to reach a goal point from anywhere in a known terrain area, eliminating most of the need to plan during travel. The authors address the construction of optimal-path maps for two-dimensional polygonal weighted-region terrain, terrain partitioned into polygonal areas such that the cost per unit of distance traveled is homogeneous and isotropic...
